You are allowed to put your own property in your own car and drive it. For plenty of clients that is the right answer, and we would rather say so than sell you something you do not need.

Every row marked “wins here” is a real advantage of the alternative. A table that gives the other side nothing is not a comparison, and anyone reading carefully will notice.
Our view
The honest verdict
If it is your own property, uncontested, and you are comfortable carrying it, drive it. Check your auto policy first — most exclude property in transit and people are genuinely surprised by that. Where doing it yourself becomes a bad idea is anything involving an estate, a divorce, a business, or several relatives with an opinion: there, the witnessed inventory is the product, not the driving.
